KOSRAE STATE MUSEUM

Welcome to our museum! Our museum devotes itself to all historical timelines related to Kosrae as an island as a State of the Federated States of Micronesia. We host a wide range of artifacts including Kosraean beads, tools for crafts, shell graters, weaving loom, as well as cultural material from World War II! As part of our museum, we also host artwork from the Lütke Expedition and several maps created by the French and German explorers. We begin with histories of a variety of explorers who visited our beautiful island.

The Age of Exploration brought waves of Spanish, Portuguese, French, Dutch, German, and British voyages through the vast Pacific Ocean. All voyages began with a different motive. The history of each group who saw or visited Kosrae reflects those voyages. Join us in reading these descriptions (in the menu on the left) as we travel back in time!

We are open Monday through Friday from 8:00am until 3:00pm (2:30pm on Fridays), except on holidays. Come by and learn more about our history!
